Driving Low Carbon Transformation for Your Business: CLP and DBS Empower SMEs for a Low-Carbon Future
As an energy partner of SMEs, CLP understands that additional support is crucial to achieving low-carbon transformation. In 2023, CLP joined hands with DBS to launch the “SME Low Carbon Rewards” programme, offering a series of exclusive rewards to SMEs that participate in energy-saving and carbon-reducing initiatives.
Once eligible CLP business customers open a DBS Business Account successfully and apply for CLP eBill service or start settling CLP bill payments via direct debit from the designated DBS Business Account, they can enjoy a preferential deposit interest rate on their current or savings account*. The interest earned can be used to settle their electricity bills and other expenses. DBS will also subsidise customer purchases of CLP Renewable Energy Certificates*, as well as provide them with more banking offers.
Mr. Chan Chun-ning, the owner of Well Clean Laundry in Tuen Mun, is one of the participants in the programme. He said, "In the past, it was challenging for SMEs to open business accounts, as we had to provide many proof documents and pay handling fees. Through this programme, I received assistance from a dedicated relationship manager in handling the application process and had my application fee waived. It is very helpful to us!". Mr. Chan expressed his gratitude to CLP staff for introducing him to the programme, which allows him to earn extra interest on his DBS Business Account and subsidise some of his operating expenses.
He shared, " CLP account manager often provides energy-saving advice such as installing higher energy-efficient electric dryers which helps to save energy cost. The programme made us understand that carbon reduction can start simply by going paperless and operating electronically." He also plans to apply for CLP subsidies in the future to replace his air conditioners with Grade 1 energy label appliances, further reducing energy consumption.
