Find out how we achieve excellent supply reliability through effective asset management.
Our approach
To manage our assets, we use a structured framework containing systematic practices. We use our framework to optimise and sustainably manage each asset’s performance, risks and expenditures over their life-cycle.
In 2015, we were first accredited with the ISO 55001 certification. ISO 55001 is the latest Asset Management Standard, which certifies that we optimally manage the capital investments, daily operations, maintenance, resources, risks, performance and sustainability for all of our assets.

Risk management
Every year, we examine the latest development projects and load growth forecast. We put together a 10-year network development plan to ensure that we can meet electricity demands through timely and cost-effective investments.
To optimise our assets’ performance, we are moving towards a condition-based maintenance approach. This approach combines predictive and preventive maintenance with condition monitoring techniques. In addition to regular inspections, we monitor real-time data to determine the condition of critical equipment.
This approach allows us to detect and fix potential fault conditions before failures occur.
Our infrastructure survived from the impact of Typhoon Mangkhut in September 2018, the most powerful storm to hit the city in decades that caused widespread power interruptions in distribution Overhead Line system. In the face of an increasing number of powerful storms and unusual extreme weather events caused by climate change, we have to be increasingly vigilant in ensuring that our systems are sufficiently robust.
Risks
The most significant risks include:
Potential damage of 400kV pylons at windy locations; and
Potential flooding of substations in low lying coastal areas.
Potential prolonged supply interruptions for some customers in remote area as large number of fallen trees and debris blocked roads, making access and repair work extremely difficult.
Measures
To mitigate these risks, we:
Strengthened the structures and foundation slopes of selected 400kV pylons;
Implemented flood mitigation measures at flood-prone substations;
Developed a system to identify substations at potential flood risk due to storm surges; and
Strengthen tree management to mitigate the risk of vegetation interference to our overhead line systems.
