CLP Smart Energy Award 2021 promotes innovative green technology and commends commercial and industrial customers for lowering carbon emissions

Themed “RE#Boost for a greener, low-carbon future”, the fourth CLP Smart Energy Award ceremony was successfully held on 24 November 2021. The award encouraged businesses and organisations to leverage innovative technologies for greater energy efficiency, as Hong Kong embraces its future as a low-carbon smart city. Business customers responded positively with record-high entries, showing their commitment to energy conservation and carbon reduction.

Watch highlights from the ceremony:

Businesses and organisations are now making carbon reduction and energy conservation a priority throughout their operations. Whether that is the data centre going green, the large shopping mall balancing comfort with environmental protection and energy conservation, or a brand bringing its century-old business into the future, all are playing their part in reducing emissions through innovation and technology.

Equinix has adopted smart and energy-saving solutions to enhance energy efficiency in its Hong Kong data centre. Supported by a smart system that analyses the cooling needs of equipment and indoor temperature, the chiller can automatically regulate the cooling and optimise its performance for better energy efficiency, reducing its energy use and operating costs.

Hang Heung Cake Shop has successfully achieved a low-carbon transformation of its century-old business. Its new cake workshop features a range of smart equipment and energy-saving solutions, including smart ovens which automatically adjust the air flow, heat, and cooking time, saving around 20% of electricity compared with traditional ovens. In addition, the new workshop’s air conditioning and lighting systems are controlled independently, zone by zone, so the business can manage its electricity consumption easily and achieve greater energy efficiency.

Through its energy conservation programmes and subsidy scheme, CLP will continue to provide comprehensive support to business customers across all sectors, helping them manage their power needs, conserve energy and reduce their carbon footprint.

We highly appreciate representatives from various government departments, chambers of commerce, green organisations, professional bodies and SME associations for serving as judges for this year’s award. It is hoped that all sectors can continue working together towards Hong Kong’s zero-carbon emission goal.
